A Quiet Holiday in Curacao July 20, 2009
Mostly our vacations revolved around constant partying. However, this time we decided to sober down and explore the rich cultural heritage of a holiday destination. Our holidays would normally include our friends with whom we would travel to some place in the Caribbean. By the end of the vacation we would be so exhausted by the parties that we would actually take a couple of days off work and recuperate at home.
On our wish list for this summer was the Greater Antilles. Sam had found out all about it. A friend of ours suggested exploring the rich cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic. It had many historic sites that he couldn’t stop raving about. As we began researching the place more and more our enthusiasm wore out as there were far too many partying temptations in the Dominican Republic.
Finally, we decided to visit Curacao. Curacao was a peaceful and quiet holiday destination with a rich cultural heritage. Its white-sand beaches were exactly what we were looking for. Away from the noisy nightlife we decided we would just explore its rich cultural heritage and later bask in the sun. I absolutely fell in love with the land houses there. Punda and Otrabanda had some amazing old restored buildings which were reminiscent of a bygone era of early settlers. We also got a great insight into Curacao’s geological history at the Hato Caves.
Now that we are back from our dream vacation I couldn’t believe it myself that we actually ended up having a great time without partying at all. Our friends were equally surprised. In fact, they swore to accompany us on our next vacation just to make sure that we were capable of having a good time without partying. This time, all of us have decided to make a fabulous trip to a spa destination.
