Electric Bikes: Be Green, Keep Fit, Save Money August 16, 2009
We’re often nagged by the need to do more exercise but so many things get in the way. You see individuals crowded into gyms doing exercise, and think : well, I have to travel to the gym, pay up my membership fee, then get to do some exercise. It seems like loads of effort, isn’t there something I can do that’s not going to blow my time – something that’s even practical?
You might consider cycling, as cycling is a superb means to get fit. You can bike to the local shops or to work, so it’s rather pragmatic. It’s also very cheap – there’s no petrol involved and the maintenance are almost nothing. It’s also very “green”. And not forgetting the small point of actually getting fit too.
Still, many people are put off getting a bicycle since it’s just TOO much exercise. As odd as it may sound, consider that they may be elderly, live in a very hilly area or have a particular ailment that make biking too “hardcore” for their abilities. Also for a few people, it’s not practical biking to their work since they will sweat too much because of the exertions of biking.
Now it’s time to introduce electric bikes. They give you a break on the awful slopes merely by twisting your hand on the handlebar and allowing the electric motor kick in – pedalling is no longer required then. Then when you feel up to it, just pedal. So you get your modest exercise and fresh air without over-doing it. Electric bikes are also cheap to operate requiring only a daily recharge if you do about 15 to 22 miles per day, although most individuals need just two recharges per week since they are not doing this kind of mileage. For the more adventurous, there are even mountain electric bikes for those who want to get out into the countryside but don’t quite have the calf muscles to scale the slopes.
Nowadays the actual cost of buying an e-bike have come right down in price, so you can save yourself a lot of cash on bus fares, fuel, gym memberships etc. by buying and regularly using an e-bike.
