Improving Your Talent Management Skills January 15, 2010
Talent management skills are very important in attaining the best in your business success. These skills may be developed and studied. It can be an advantage to have a natural affinity for communicating with people, but you can do many things that will simplify the process. Forging relationships: Remembering people by name can be a beginning. Engage in conversation; look employees in the eye as you are talking. Have a respectful attitude, and be attentive to what the other person says, regardless of whether you agree with them. Listening to what employees say is one of the best talent management skills you can have. Exhibit interest in what they can give to the business.
Live up to your word: Don’t make promises you will not keep. If your word is broken, it will destroy trust, and people won’t give you their best if they do not trust you. Everytime you give a commitment or give a promise, ensure you can keep your promises or it would really be more sensible not to give your word at all. The truth is, if you can’t be counted upon, your staff can’t be trusted on to be available if you actually need them.
Be open to any feedback: It’s a two-way street. Keeping an open mind regarding other’s opinions is very important in effective people management. Being accessible and open proves that other people’s ideas are important to you, and they should value yours. Encouraging open discourse also opens doors to innovative ways of thinking, new ways of achieving the goals of the team, and develops the team dynamic. By allowing the employees an input, the project will become important to each member.
Communicating is fundamental: Managing people boils down to one thing — good communication. Be approachable, listen attentively to other people, welcome feedback , and allow each of your team members to express their views. Staff should be inspired to talk to one another as well as with you. The sharing of ideas is imperative in the creative process, when the employees communicate well, you can identify problems quickly, allowing corrective action to be implemented to prevent any further problems. Acquiring these techniques may take some time, all the same the payoff is worth it. Through inspiring a good team dynamic and demonstrating good listening techniques, a successful business can be yours.
