Railing Durrr – $50/100 PLO April 6, 2010

I was bored on a bus for 14 hours. The bus happened to have internet and I could not get my poker client to work, so I fired up FullTilt and it connected. The problem was that I had no money on FullTilt. I blew through my old Frequent Player Points and began snooping around on the high stakes tables. Tom Dwan was seated at a few tables, but at $50/100 PLO, which is a bit lower than he usually plays. Anyway I pulled up 2 of his tables and watched him play. Both were 6-max tables, but at one he was heads up and no one else joined.

What I found really awesome was that there are run-it-twice options at the high stakes cash tables. Running it twice is when you get all-in against a poker opponent and offer to deal the rest of the cards out as if they would add to the preexisting board separately to make two different final boards. So if you were all-in on the flop and ran it twice, you would get a normal turn and river, and then a second turn and a second river. If you win both boards you win the whole pot, if you win one you chop the pot.

I saw an amazing hand where Dwan ran it twice. He had an open ended straight flush draw and his poker online opponent had the nut flush draw with aces for an overpair. Dwan’s flush outs were blocked, but he had the straight cards as well as the straight flush cards in the deck to win. He lost both. It was exciting and awful all at once!
